Chatting with Angela Knight

Hi Angela! Thanks for joining us today. Can you tell us about your newest release, Master of Fire?

With the Mageverse series, I’m really trying to do something a little bit different.  My hero is Logan MacRoy, a cop, forensic chemist, arson investigator and bomb tech.  As if that’s not enough, he’s also the mortal son of  King Arthur, who in my universe  is an immortal vampire.  Arthur’s mortal enemy, the leader of a werewolf cult, is Warlock, who has sworn to kill Logan.  He’s already murdered twelve Latents – the mortal descendents of Arthur’s witches and vampire knights.

Arthur orders one of his newest witches, Giada Shepherd, to go undercover as Logan’s bodyguard.  He also warns her not to become sexually involved with Logan, since sleeping with her three times would activate the spell that would turn Logan into a vampire. And Logan has told his father he doesn’t want to become a vampire yet, because he’s not ready to give up his law enforcement career.

So Logan believes Giada is a mortal chemist who wants training in drug testing. The two become friends. Meanwhile, the assassins Warlock has sent start making a series of attempts to kill Logan – planting bombs, killing cops, and generally keeping Giada busy trying to keep Logan alive.  The two become close, and before she knows what’s going on, Giada has fallen for Logan, who is deliciously seductive. Despite Arthur’s orders, staying out of Logan’s bed is probably the hardest part of the job.

This book was a huge kick to write, and I just loved every minute of it.  It was inspired by a real-life forensic chemist, Lt. Ashley Harris, who let me follow him around, taught me how to test drugs, and brainstormed all the evil bombs my villains use, as well as how to defuse them.  I dedicated the book to Ashley.

Will we be seeing more of the Mageverse world in the future?

Oh, definitely.  I love the Mageverse – It has literally infinite possibilities.

Do you have other books releasing this year?

Yes. Besides Master of Fire on March 2, there’s an anthology called BURNING UP with my first medieval paranormal story. That’s out August 3. Then there will be the next Mageverse book, Master of Smoke, out around Christmas.

What are you currently working on?

Master of Smoke, which continues the Werewolf War storyline in the Mageverse. Logan’s sidekick in Master of Fire is a shapeshifting cat named Smoke who is really a Sidhe demigod. During a fight with Warlock, he loses his memories and powers. He’s rescued by a beautiful comic book store owner named Beth Roman.  Beth is a werewolf, but fighting off the assassins Warlock sends still proves a challenging job.  I am having a ball writing this book, because Beth is constantly firing off snarky zingers, and David (Smoke’s new name) is a deliciously seductive hunk.

Where do you get your ideas for your books?

I ask a series of “What if?” questions. I like vampires and the Arthurian legends, so I thought, “What if King Arthur was a vampire?”  And then I started building a universe around that idea. Often I get ideas from the newspaper stories I wrote as a reporter. For example, I did a story about a police K-9 drug dog, and I thought, what if the dog was a werewolf who fell in love with his pretty female handler?  That evolved into the Direkind.

As an author, you must be an avid reader. What books do you enjoy reading? Who are your auto-buy authors?

Oh, God, I am such a book junkie.  I love JR Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood series, and J.D. Robb’s In Death series. I also love urban fantasy – especially the werewolf series by Patricia Briggs and Eileen Wilkes.  Jim Butcher, Charlaine Harris, Laurell K Hamilton, and especially Lois McMaster Bujold are all autobuys for me.  I love reading really inventive, imaginative books.

What books are on your keeper shelf?

Like I said, the whole In Death series,  The Black Dagger Brotherhood series, the Vor novels by Lois McMaster Bujold – I just love her Miles Vorkosigan. The concept of a 4-foot-nine Alpha male with brittle bones who still manages to charm and seduce everyone around into following him is just so fantastic.  I love that character.

What was the first romance book you read or the one book that has stood the test of time for you?

The first was The Wolf and the Dove by Kathleen Woodwiss. God, I loved that book. I was maybe 15, and my mother caught me reading it and threw it away. I bought another copy and read it until it fell apart.

If your book was made into a movie, which actors would like to see as the lead characters?

Angelina Joile and Brad Pitt.  They kick ass so very well, and they’re pretty, too.

If you could switch lives with one of your characters, who would it be & why?

Probably Giada.  I love the idea of having magic powers and saving the world.  And having sex with Logan wouldn’t suck.

When you are not writing or reading, what do you enjoying doing in your spare time?

I do computer graphics, something like Avatar?  I do renders of my heroes and heroines and make book videos with them. Lately I’m getting reasonably good at it.

If you could ask readers anyone question, what would it be?

Do I suck?  LOL!

Where can readers find you on the internet?

www.angelasknights.com.

Thank you so much for interviewing me, and for your interest in my books.  I deeply appreciate the opportunity.

Q&A, plus giveaway, with Charlene Teglia

To survive, she’ll have to keep up with him all day. And all night…

Take Me, Lover, Book 3

Jill Martin loves adventure—as long as it comes between the covers of a book. Preferably one sporting a bare-chested hero. But to reinvent her faltering travel agency, she needs to start with reinventing herself. Her assignment: a three-day backpacking trip through the Olympic High Divide.

Soon she’s forced to cope with bears, blisters, and a basic instinct to get horizontal with her vertical guide. He’s as hard as the ground they sleep on and his heart’s as icy as the glaciers that surround them. Not a problem, since she’s only interested in his body.

Ryan Lowe knows how to read terrain, and Jill’s is easy. Soft lips, soft eyes, soft curves, soft muscles. She won’t last a day. Plus, if she knew what his imagination was doing with her body right now, she’d turn tail and run. Yet the city girl surprises him with her sheer grit—and sassy tongue.

When they run into geocachers using the remote location as a drug drop-off, there’s only one way to escape—plunge headlong into the untracked wilderness. As she puts her life in Ryan’s hands, Jill wonders if she’s in danger of losing something more precious. Her heart.

Hi Charlene! Thank you for agreeing to an author interview today.

Lillie, thanks for asking me.

Can you tell everyone a little bit about yourself? How long have you been writing?

I’ve been writing daily since I was 12. I’m 42, so that’s 30 years of ingrained habit.

What is your writing process like?

There are multiple stages, so I always have several projects going in various stages. One idea might be getting researched while another one is at the proposal stage. One is in the process of being written, another is being revised, another proof-read before release, and so on. My process is very organic, plots and worldbuilding grow from the characters and the situation they’re in.

Can you tell us about your newest releases, Adventure Lover and Bride of Fire?

Adventure Lover is the 3rd in the Take Me, Lover series from Samhain. These are hot contemporary romances with men who aren’t SEALs or supernaturals, romance with an emotional punch and a thrill of danger. Adventure Lover is the story of a woman who sets out to explore the wilderness and push her own limits, and the man who pushes them with her.

Bride of Fire is an erotic retelling of the myth of Persephone and Hades. It’s part of All Romance Ebook’s 28 Days of Heart fundraiser for the American Heart Association. When you buy a copy, you do something good for your heart and for somebody else’s.

Captive for his pleasure…

Hades, Lord of the Underworld, rules the realm of darkness but his kingdom has no queen. He burns for Persephone who lives in the world above. If he could only lure her below, she would taste the passion he alone can offer and agree to stay and rule by his side.

Persephone falls into Hades’ trap and becomes his captive. He offers her his bed and a throne, but will he offer her what she truly wants—his heart?

~~~~~~~~
Do you have other books releasing this year?
Yes, Dangerous Lover, the fourth and final installment of the Take Me, Lover series will release from Samhain this spring. Red Queen, also from Samhain, is the sequel to Animal Attraction. The Mammoth Book of Special Ops Romance in May contains my story Shoot to Thrill. Then in June, July and August my Wishmasters trilogy will release from Carina Press; these stories are tales of the Djinn and the women they fall for, three hot romances with one over-arching storyline. In the fall there’s Kiss of the Demon, the second Shadow Guardians novel from Samhain. I believe the Mammoth Book of Hot Romance which contains my story Wolf at the Door will also release in 2010.
What are you currently working on?
Right now? Revisions for Dangerous Lover, Red Queen, Djinn and Sin (Wishmasters #1) and Wolf at the Door, in various stages of the process.
Where do you get your ideas for your books?
The overall answer is that I have the kind of brain wired to develop story ideas. More specific answers: for Dangerous Lover, I wanted to write about a hot firefighter in a southern setting. The story grew from that kernel. For Adventure Lover, I wanted to write about a city girl thrown together with a wilderness guide. For Bride of Fire, I wanted to write the romance of Hades and Persephone because I always believed the story was romantic.
As an author, you must be an avid reader. What books do you enjoy reading? Who are your auto-buy authors?
I love reading mysteries, urban fantasy, paranormal romance, Young Adult. To name just a few, I will buy anything by Lynn Viehl under her various pen names, Lori Armstrong/Lorelei James, Shannon Stacey, Maya Banks, Lauren Dane, Ilona Andrews, Lois McMaster Bujold, Jim Butcher, Kim Harrison, Kelley Armstrong, Dean Koontz, Kristopher Reisz. I hate making lists like this because I always forget people, this is just a sample and not a complete list.
What books are on your keeper shelf?
I have several large bookcases full of keepers. Too many to list.
What was the first romance book you read or the one book that has stood the test of time for you?
It’s not really a romance, but I’d say A Wrinkle In Time, because Meg and Calvin’s romance is timeless and it’s really the first story with an important romance storyline I remember reading.
If one your books was made into a movie, which actors would like to see as the lead characters?
I really can’t say. I don’t think in terms of celebrity types for my characters; they are their own people in my head and I can’t really see them as anybody else.
If you could switch lives with one of your characters, who would it be & why?
I’d never want to end up in one of my own stories! My characters have to fight bad guys and go through all sorts of unpleasant situations I never want to find myself in. I like a more peaceful life.
When you are not writing or reading, what do you enjoying doing in your spare time?
Spending time with family and friends, raising kids, opening and closing doors for cats, painting, baking, gardening, hiking, camping.
If you could ask readers any question, what would it be?
Do you read ebooks? If not, why not?
Where can readers find you on the internet?
My blog, news, covers, excerpts and release information can be found on my website at www.charleneteglia.com. I’m also on Twitter and Facebook and I’m tracking my year in reading at Goodreads.
Q&A with Crystal Jordan
Hi Crystal! Thanks for doing an interview with us today. Can you tell everyone a little bit about yourself?
I love tall, dark, and handsome men, so they show up as my heroes way too often. Then again, true love should never be wasted. It should be shared. With all my readers! Let’s see…what else? I’m a librarian in real life, so researching my books can be something of an obsession for me. Even then, I’m sure I still get some of the details wrong. Ah, well!
How long have you been writing?
A little over four years (though it doesn’t feel like very long at all!). I sold my first short story to an e-publisher about a year later and then to my first print publisher a year after that.
What is your writing process like?
Chaos! Madness! Insanity! No, really. I finished a deadline last night, so I’m just coming out of having more caffeine flowing through my veins than a triple shot of espresso.
For *process*, process though. I typical get my editor’s approval on a book concept, either through emails or a formal synopsis. Then I use the syno as a road map to write the book, because I write all my scenes out of order and then fit them all together like a puzzle at the end.
Can you tell us about your newest release, Believe In Me?
Believe In Me is the sequel to If You Believe, which came out last year, and it’s the second of my three part Unbelievable series. Believe In Me is Jericho’s story, the guardian angel I introduced in the first book. I’d intended for his story to be last in the series, but he’s a very insistent character, as his heroine, Tori, learns.
Here are the official details about the book:
Love might need a little push…or a good, swift kick.
Tori Chambers. Old biddy, gossip, busybody and meddler. Except in reality she’s none of those things—she’s a guardian angel who specializes in helping people find their soul mates. Her latest assignment has had her tearing her hair out for over a year. She’s holding up her end for the fireman who’s her current client, but his soul mate’s guardian angel is dropping the ball big time. And when a replacement steps in, it’s enough to curl what’s left of Tori’s hair.
Jericho. The one man who broke her heart—and made her determined to never fail her clients like her own guardian angel failed her.
A hundred years ago, while fighting for Texas independence, Jericho made a mistake that accidentally cost her life. Now that she’s forced to make nice and work with him, he’s determined not to lose her again. Even if he has to tie her to the bed and make love to her until she’s willing to see reason.
Because unknown to Tori, she is his assignment. And if he can’t find a way to convince her they’re soul mates, they face an eternity of consequences…
Some of the blog readers may have noticed that I have a OMG-give-me-the-book-now *slight* weakness for ménage romances. Do you plan to write more books like It’s Raining Men? And if the answer is no, will begging change your mind?
Oh, honey. I have *several* other menage books. Try “Carnal Desires” and “Untamed” if you like boy on boy action with your menages. “On the Prowl” has a naughty set of twin brothers, if you like all the love focused on the heroine. There are a few other menages coming down the pipelines, but nothing solid enough to mention right now.
Do you have other books releasing this year?
Oh, yes! I’m part of a series with a bunch of authors who blog together at Smutketeers.com, and we’re doing this Road Warrior meets naughtiness series called The Wasteland. My story is first in the line up and it’s called The Wanderer (which *might* features a scene or two of the menage fun. Okay, maybe there’s one or two more people than a menage strictly requires. Group love!). That book comes out in May or June, and then in September, I have a new shapeshifter novella called Between Lovers in the “Sexy Beast IX” anthology. In November, I have a different shapeshifter book called “Primal Heat” where ancient alien shifters who originally settled the earth come to claim what’s theirs…in the sexiest possible way. The last installment in the Unbelievable series should also be out later this year, but I’m not sure when yet. Stay tuned!
What are you currently working on?
I just finished a book last night, as I said, but I’m about to hop in to the Wasteland story tomorrow morning. Should be fun!
Where do you get your ideas for your books?
Everywhere! I got the idea for my novella “Black Opals” because I locked my keys in my car at a gas station and this very nice SWAT officer happened to be there and slim jimmed my door for me. Poof! Insta-book. My best friend and I were having a conversation about her love of pirate time travels and then she mentioned a few days later that there just weren’t any heroines who were like her: brown haired, brown eyed, history graduate students. Thus, the heroine, Rebecca, from my story “Treasured” was born.
As an author, you must be an avid reader. What books do you enjoy reading? Who are your auto-buy authors?
When I’m writing, I try to avoid reading books in the same genre I’m writing in. So, I’ll pick up fantasy or women’s fiction or young adult novels. After the book is in though? I am all over my romance people. I love Gena Showalter, Linda Howard, Kate Pearce, Robin D. Owens, Emma Holly, PC Cast, Diana Pharaoh Francis, Lucienne Diver, the list could go on forever.
What books are on your keeper shelf?
Kate Pearce’s Simply series, Robin D. Owens’s Celta series, Gail Carriger’s Soulless, pretty much everything I’ve ever bought of Linda Howard’s and Gena Showalter’s. I also *love* Judith McNaught’s old historicals. I wish she’d written more of them.
What was the first romance book you read or the one book that has stood the test of time for you?
My first romance was “The Gamble” by LaVyrle Spencer. I stole it from my mom and still think it’s a stellar story. I was hooked then and I never looked back.
If your book was made into a movie, which actors would like to see as the lead characters?
Well, my hero Kesuk from In Ice in the “Sexy Beast V” anthology would have to be a blond Vin Diesel. Same big build and rumbly voice. Outside of that, I’ve never really cast my characters before. They sort of come to me as their own people, no extra visuals required.
If you could switch lives with one of your characters, who would it be & why?
I think I’d go for Pixie from “Crazy Little Thing Called Love.” She’s smart, sassy, successful, a powerful Fae, and has the werewolf Alpha giving her orgasms on tap. No, really. It’s in the book.
When you are not writing or reading, what do you enjoying doing in your spare time?
Right now I’m redecorating my apartment, so reading home renovation and decorating magazines for tips is a new thing for me. I also love to hang out with my friends, spend way too much time on the phone, watch movies, and try out new restaurants. I just found a new cupcake bakery in my area that is so good I’ll have to avoid it in the future or risk my girlish figure.
If you could ask readers anyone question, what would it be?
Hmm… Maybe they could help me plan for future books. So… If you could have any of my secondary characters get their own book, which would it be and why?
Interview with January Rowe
Love knows no limits…
Briony considers herself easy to please. All she wants is a Dominant who’s wickedly creative and completely devoted to conquering her—and only her—with joy. She has everything she wants until her Dom takes on another girl. Bri delights in fantasy role play, inventive toys and bondage at Hell Mary’s BDSM club, but she doesn’t do poly.
Now she’s on the hunt for a new play partner who’ll give her exactly what she needs. A little flirtation with Hell Mary’s Dungeon Monitor is just the thing to ease her back into circulation—except the hardass wrapped in khaki treats her like she needs protection.
Behind his imperturbable DM mask, Chris has eyes only for Bri. It’s his job to make sure things don’t get out of control at the club. Despite her bravado, Bri’s broken heart is like a target painted on her back. She needs to learn some things on her own, but when a private scene goes too far, he can’t wait any longer to step in—and show her she doesn’t need fancy trappings.
His body is more than enough.
Warning: this title features kink and imaginative sex in a variety of forms—scalding hot, kinda lukewarm, and juuuust right. Reminders to breathe are clearly marked. Ignore them at your peril.
Hi January! Thank you for agreeing to an interview. Can you tell everyone a little bit about yourself?
I live in Colorado. I’m married to my grad school sweetheart, and we have three children. Our favorite place in the universe is Yellowstone Park. My background is in science.
How long have you been writing?
Since I was a kid. My first short story was a melancholy tale of loss. I wrote about a tree house.
What is your writing process like?
I’m an extremely slow writer. I write, and then I revise, revise, revise. Then I revise some more. I rarely have writer’s block. If I’m stuck or unhappy, it just means I need to shove aside the analytical January. I abandon the computer and go off with a spiral notebook and pen. Then I imagine “what ifs”. Afterwards, I’m all better.
Can you tell us about your newest release, My One?
My One is a BDSM novella. It’s a hot and intense love story about two people completely comfortable with their kink.
This is your first release, correct? What emotions and feelings have you experience this week?
Yes, this is my first book. I’m thrilled and proud!
Do you have other books releasing this year?
None so far!
What are you currently working on?
I’m writing another BDSM romance. This is the story of a long-term couple who have lost their kink groove, and want it back.
Where do you get your ideas for your books?
Most of my ideas come from contemporary non-fiction sources. Newsweek, the local newspaper, even People magazine, inspire plot fragments, locales and characters.
As an author, you must be an avid reader. What books do you enjoy reading? Who are your auto-buy authors?
I get a big kick out of complex, outrageous scientific and medical thrillers. I also love futuristic romances. My favorite futuristic authors are Robin D. Owens and Ainsley Davidson. Reading Star Trek novels is my guilty pleasure. My autobuy are novels by J. D. Robb.
What books are on your keeper shelf?
I treasure the science fiction novels of Ray Bradbury and Kate
Wilhelm. I also value classics, such as the works of Aristophanes, Ovid, Augustine, Machiavelli.
What was the first romance book you read or the one book that has stood the test of time for you?
Georgette Heyer’s These Old Shades was the first romance book I ever read. I read it when I was a teen, but the emotions of the heroine are still fresh in my mind.
If your book was made into a movie, which actors would like to see as the lead characters?
What a fun question! My hero: Christopher Chance (he’s the yummy hunk on the TV show Human Target). My heroine: the saucy Katy Perry.
If you could switch lives with one of your characters, who would it be & why?
When I’m writing a story, I am living my characters’ lives. So when I’m finished with the tale, I’m ready to be just plain me.
When you are not writing or reading, what do you enjoying doing in your spare time?
I love watching my kids’ sporting events, browsing used bookstores, Zumba dancing, and gardening.
If you could ask readers any one question, what would it be?
What turns YOU on?
Where can readers find you on the internet?
On The Run by Judith Rochelle
Monday is over, so happy Tuesday everyone!
Today’s post will be a little different than our usual. No guest blogs, no interviews, no reviews. It’s just me, talking about a book that made an impact.
This past weekend, I was lucky enough to win a book over at The Romance Studio while they were doing their CAPA awards. It was by a new-to-me author so the first thing I did was check out the author’s site for a blurb. Even though my TBR pile is closer to a mountain at this point, the blurb caught my attention and I decided to read a few pages. Four hours later, I was left with a story that will stay with me for a very long time. That book is On The Run by Judith Rochelle.
~~~~~~~

When Robin Fleming witnesses the murder of her sister, Jamie, her only thought is to grab her nephew and run, from her vicious brother-in-law. Running and hiding, covering their tracks, they eventually settle in San Antonio to begin a new life. Robin, now Laura, though still grieving for her sister, is determined to make a good life for her nephew. Then illness hits Andy, and while Laura is dealing with that crisis, bad luck and unfortunate circumstances bring all the players together again and endanger everyone’s lives.
