Q&A (plus giveaway) with Lorie O’Clare

Hi Lorie! Thank you for joining us today. Can you tell everyone a little bit about yourself?

Hi there! Well, I’m a single mother. I have three teenage boys, ages 18, 16 and 13. We live in Kansas with our Boston Terrier, Beagle and two American Short Hairs who are kind enough to share their home with us.

How long have you been writing?

All of my life, or at least since I’ve been able to write words on paper. I have a spiral notebook (actually about 10 notebooks) full of stories I wrote when I was very young. I think I was very much into Jane Austen back then as each sentence is about a page long. J I’ve always written stories.

What is your writing process like?

I don’t really think of myself as having a routine but I guess I do. I wake up around 5am, have my alone time, get the boys up and off to school, run any errands I need to do, answer emails and check out any blogs or other sites people have suggested I look at, then start writing. I can’t really tell you how many hours a day I write. My standard answer is all day. Even when I’m not writing somewhere in my brain I’m working on the book. When I start writing my usual process is to read the previous three or four pages from when I last wrote, just to get back into the feel of things and refresh myself as to where I’m going. I usually write anywhere from ten to fifty pages a day in a word doc. It depends on how many interruptions there are.

Can you tell us about your newest release, Strong Sleek and Sinful?

Sure! I’d love to! I’ve been so excited about Perry and Kylie’s story coming out. Kylie is an FBI agent. When she was a young teen, her older, perfect sister was abducted, raped and killed. They never found her murderer. Kylie has dedicated her life to bringing criminals to justice. As an FBI agent her specialty is on-line predators. She’s known for taking down serial murderers who feast on teenagers on line.

Perry is a cop in Mission Hills, KS. He’s single with no kids but has helped his sister raise her three daughters ever since her husband was killed in the line of duty. He gets fed up that his Chief doesn’t think he knows what he’s talking about with teenagers being abducted since he’s never been a father. Perry wants the case involving teenage girls disappearing when it appears an on line predator is seducing them and posing as a teenage boy. The Chief doesn’t want to give Perry the case at first. All clues point to the on line predator being someone on the police force.

Kylie has a hard time avoiding Perry since his nieces have been helping her and showing her the boys they talk to on line. The romantic interest between Kylie and Perry is growing dangerously hot but whatever she does, Kylie can’t let Perry know she’s undercover. But when he does eventually find out he’ll never forgive her. Kylie can’t risk losing someone she loves again.

What’s next for you and do you have other books releasing this year?

I am in two anthologies coming out in the next couple of months, Men Of Danger and The Bodyguard Anthology. I also have a bounty hunter series coming out with St Martins in October. And I have a black jag series coming out with Ellora’s Cave in April.

Where do you get your ideas for your books?

From my warped brain.  😀

As an author, you must be an avid reader. What books do you enjoy reading?

Honestly, I love reading historicals…Hannah Howell, I recently discovered Monica McCarty, she’s great. I also love the romantic suspenses. I read very little paranormals. I don’t want to be influenced by anyone else’s ideas.

If you could switch lives with one of your characters, who would it be & why?

Probably it would be Meah in my Nuworld Series. She got the man of her dreams and won out over all obstacles in romance and in life.

When you are not writing or reading, what do you enjoying doing in your spare time?

I love painting. I think everything hanging on our walls is something I’ve made. I love creating life on canvas even when its with colored pencils or charcoals or paint. And I love my flower gardens although I can only do that during the Spring before it gets too hot.

If you could ask readers any question, what would it be?

Why do you like my books? 😀

Where can readers find you on the internet?

Review: Sweet Temptation by Maya Banks

He was a by-the-book cop who broke the rules in the bedroom…

Micah Hudson has painful secrets he’s run hard from. He has new friends, a new life, but he’s about to be confronted with the one person who reminds him of all he’s tried to forget—Angelina, the sister of his oldest friend David. She knows everything about his past, including how he and David fell in love with the same woman, and how they decided the best way to prevent her from tearing them apart was to share her between them. But then a terrible accident left Micah alone…

She was willing to do anything to make him see the woman she’d become…

Micah lost the two people who meant the most in the world to him. Angelina lost her only family. And she kept her deepest secret close to her heart. Her love for Micah. No longer willing to wait, she decides it’s time to go after him and bring him to his knees. She knows his secrets, his desires, his kinks and fetishes, and she’ll use whatever it takes to reel him in. Behind the easy going, loves women exterior lies a man with dark needs and passions. She can give him what he wants. But will he decide she’s what he needs?

Sweet Temptation is book 4 in the Sweet series by Maya Banks. I’m not even going to make an attempt at summing up this book.  The  official blurb above does a great job of that. The only thing I want to add is about the suspense. Angelina had a stalker problem while in Miami. After being raised by a cop, she knew the appropriate steps to take and did them. When that didn’t work, she fled to Texas, hoping to leave those problems behind her. Unfortunately,  the stalker follows and Angelina must confess all to Micah in hopes that the stalker can be found before he finds her again.

This book has some edgy suspense, some of the hottest sex scenes I’ve ever read, and enough emotion to make me teary-eyed more than once but the thing that stood out the most for me was the unique characters. Both Micah and Angelina are completely comfortable in their own skins. None of the angst and drama of wondering and doubting their sexual choices, just a willingness to embrace it and be who they are.

Another thing I loved about this story is the same thing I have enjoyed in every Maya Banks’ book. We get a strong heroine. Angelina doesn’t sit around, wringing her hands, waiting on the hero to waltz in and solve all her problems. She has a brain, she has common sense, and she’s not afraid to use either.

In case you haven’t guessed yet, I loved this book! I’ve loved every book in this series and, in my opinion, they just keep getting better and better. Sweet Temptation can be read as a stand alone with no problems, but the characters from all the previous Sweet books do play a big part in this one, so if you haven’t read the others books, you will be wanting to after reading Sweet Temptation.

Sexy, suspenseful, and of course, sweet. I really can’t recommend this book enough!

Sweet Temptation will be released on April 6, 2010. You can find more information, including an excerpt, at Maya Banks’ website.

Tielle St. Clare joins Shifter Week!

Hi Tielle! Thanks for joining us. Can you tell everyone a little bit about yourself?

Okay, some random facts about me…I’m a TV producer and TV Meteorologist by day and an erotic romance author by night.  I’ve lived in Alaska for almost 38 years.  I’m the youngest of four children and was a wee bit spoiled. I’m an avid knitter with a yarn stash that takes up half of my spare bedroom.

How long have you been writing?

I started writing romances when I was 16. I decided then I would be a romance writer.  I became focused enough to actually finish a book in 1992 and sold my first one in 2002.

What is your writing process like?

I usually have three or four stories in my brain at any one time.  I plot the whole story out in my head before I write anything down.  Then I (sometimes) write a detailed synopsis of the story. When that’s done I start to write. I don’t write in a linear fashion so I will often have the end of the book written before the beginning, which is why it needs to be completely plotted out before I start to write.

What made you decide to write about shifters?

They are interesting creatures, part man, part animal. I like being able to have the animal’s tendencies show up in a human.  Makes the human a little more difficult to control.

If you could be any type of shifter, which would you choose?

Probably a were-cat. Just because I think the big cats are such sexy creatures.

Do you have any future plans for heroes of the furry variety?

I’m currently working on the 5th book (Shadow’s Embrace) in the Wolf’s Heritage series.  It’s got a werewolf hero and a human-turned-werewolf hero.  All of the books in this series have 2 heroes and a heroine.  Once this one is finished, I’ve got at least one more in the series planned.  In between Shadow’s Embrace and the next one I think I’m writing another dragon story.

Can you tell us about your next release(s)?

I think my next release will be Marvin and the Three Bears.  It’s the sequel to Fairy Dust. In Fairy Dust, Marlena has created a Happily Ever After Fairy Dust with a hot sex additive.  In Marvin and the Three Bears, some of it gets dropped on Goldilocks’ tale and he has to jump into the story to try to save it.

When you are not writing or reading, what do you enjoying doing in your spare time?

It’s hard to think of right now because I’m working on a huge project at work and I’m on a book deadline so the spare time I have I’ve been writing. My main hobby is knitting. I’m working on a lovely blue top-down sweater that I should finish in the next few weeks.

If you could ask readers any question, what would it be?

I guess I would ask…what brings you back to an author time after time?

Where can readers find you on the internet?

I’m most active on Facebook.  http://www.facebook.com/tiellestclare

I also have a blog that I try to keep up to date. http://tiellestclare.blogspot.com/

And my website http://www.tiellestclare.com/

For a chance to win any book from Tielle’s backlist, just leave a comment answering her question. Good luck!

Discussing shifters with Annmarie McKenna

Hi Annmarie! Thank you for joining us today. Can you tell everyone a little bit about yourself?

I am a mom of four, wife, chauffeur, writer, reader, and love to travel with my family.

How long have you been writing?

Since about 2004 I guess.

What is your writing process like?

Well until now I’ve always written at night, in the dark quietness of the house, after everyone’s–all the kids at least–have gone to bed. Now that my son is in kindergarten, I am able to write in the mornings.

What made you decide to write about shifters?

I love ’em 🙂 I love to read about them and would really like to meet the ultimate dominant alpha male. LOL

If you could be any type of shifter, which would you choose?

I think a werewolf. Or maybe a jaguar. Perhaps an eagle…

Do you have any future plans for heroes of the furry variety?

I tend to flop around from genre to genre a lot. I am still working on the third in the Mate Series, Ultimatum. If only Derek and Paige would cooperate, things would go much easier.

Can you tell us about your next release(s)?

To the Max releases May 4th from Samhain. It’s a short, fun, pole-dancing red-hots! If anyone has read the first two, Between a Ridge and a Hard Place or Bridging the Gap, then you’ve met Max, the security man.

When you are not writing or reading, what do you enjoying doing in your spare time?

Traveling, watching my kid’s various sports, long drives to nowhere in particular. We really like indoor waterparks so we’ve been hitting those lately. And if I had a loom, I’d probably spend vast amounts of time weaving.

If you could ask readers any question, what would it be?

I’m always wondering what people are truly looking for that they’re aren’t finding. You know us, always looking for ideas.

Where can readers find you on the internet?

I am the most horrible author for updates–I’m sure everyone who’s ever looked can tell you that. Sorry! www.annmariemckenna.com or on facebook. I have a Myspace page but man, are those even used anymore? and a blog that you can access from the website but again…it’s woefully behind in updates. I also have a yahoo group that’s mainly used for special announcements. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Annmarie_McKenna/
Annmarie has offered a great Shifter Week prize! One lucky person will get their pick from her backlist. Winner’s choice! All you need to do is leave a comment answering her question. Good luck 😀

Shifter Week Day 2: Our favorites

There is just not enough days in Shifter Week to cover all of our favorites but Greta and I did want to take this chance to share some of our auto-buys.

Maya Banks

Maya has two shifter series out right now, as well as one book that is a stand alone. In the Falcon Mercenary Group, you have a group of soldier that were exposed to a gas that left them with the ability to shift. Plenty of action and suspense! In the Wild series, you have Golden Eyes and Amber Eyes. These books are about two women whose spirit guides allow them to shift into large cats. This series is hot enough to steam! The stand alone is Love Me Still. I don’t think I have the words to describe this one. It has a wolf shifter clan and it is about the long road to  forgiveness. Regardless of which Maya Banks’ book you read, you will always get a story that tugs at the heart strings.

Lauren Dane

What can I say about Lauren’s Cascadia Wolves series? You have insanely hot alpha male heroes, vulnerable heroines who are not afraid to kick ass when the situation calls for it, and some fantastic world building that leaves me panting for the next book. Hot, hot, freaking hot! There is currently 6 books in the Cascadia Wolves and one book in the spin-off series, La Vega Cats. Did I mention that they are hot?

Shelly Laurenston aka G.A Aiken

Shelly has so many shifter series out there that I’m not even going to make an attempt at listing them all. I know I would forget one. She has wolves, lions, wild dogs, bears, hyenas, hybrids, and dragons. Basically, whatever breed of shifter you are looking for, you can find it in a Shelly book. Well, as long as it’s not a were-bunny. The residents of Shifterville will laugh at you then 😉 These books are my pick-me-up. With every new or reread, I find myself laughing until I cry. I love this series!

In addition to the fabulous prizes that our guests are giving away this week, Greta and I wanted to do a Shifter Week grand prize as well. One person will be winning a $25 gift certificate to All Romance ebooks. The rules for the grand prize are simple. For each post you comment on (including this one), you will get one entry in the contest. We will have five posts, so you can have up to five entries. On Sunday March 21, we will draw the winner.

So, now we have discussed some of our favorites, what are yours?

Kicking off Shifter Week at Red Rock Pass!

Cry Sanctuary

Keith Winston has come home to Montana to find peace. Instead, the veteran warrior finds himself fighting pressure to become the alpha’s right hand. His attraction to a new wolf on the run sucks him into yet another battle between his instincts and his heart.

Abigail Adler knew nothing about werewolves–until she became one. Red Rock is her only refuge, but she chafes under its rigid rules. Except when it comes to submitting to the passion Keith stirs in her body. With her sister in danger, though, they will both have to risk breaking all the rules.

Sanctuary Lost

Brynn Adler hates feeling helpless and vulnerable. But that’s right where she is…in a world of werewolves. Worse, her sister Abigail is one of them. The pack wants to send her packing, yet she’s unwilling to leave–her sister, or the one man who makes her forget her life is falling apart.

Joe Mitchell knew getting involved with Brynn was a bad idea. A supernatural war is no place for a human, and he’s not about to let her make a decision that will bring pain and regret. Now all he has to do is let her go.

Lillie: Hi everyone. We are at Red Rock Pass today and Keith Winston, one of the stars of Sanctuary by Moira Rogers, has been kind enough to grant us an interview.

Keith, thank you so much for allowing us to visit. Can you tell us a little about Red Rock?

Keith: Sure. It’s a nice enough little town, if you’re not too hot on the modern conveniences. Magic keeps most people out, but that keeps out other things like high-speed internet, outlet malls and movie theaters. We live pretty far off the grid…but if you’re a werewolf on the run, that’s pretty much where you have to live.

Lillie: What is your job within the pack?

Keith: I’m an enforcer. Which means I do what my alpha tells me to…unless I forget to ask permission first. That always tends to come back and bite me in the ass though.

Lillie: What was your first impression of Abby? Was it love at first sight?

Keith: Well that’s a pretty personal question, but I wasn’t thinking much about love that first time. She was tough and brave, but she was in trouble, and she’d been through a lot of shit. Plus, my alpha would have kicked my ass if I’d taken advantage of someone in a tough spot like that.

Abby: I think he almost did anyway.

Keith: Thinking is not doing.

Lillie: Abby? What did you think of Keith?

Abby: He’s hot, and he showed up to rescue me from certain death. I think I just thought, “Oh yes, one of those, please.”

Keith: This is kind of embarrassing. Which means we’ve got about five seconds before Joe shows up to listen.

Lillie: What’s the best and worst thing about living with a group of werewolves?

Joe: No privacy. Everyone knows everyone else’s business.

Keith: See? I knew he’d be here any minute to mock my pain. Which I suppose is the upside of living with a group of werewolves–they may show up to mock your pain, but if the bad guys come to town, they show up just as quick to help you fight them off.

Lillie: I’m sure everyone has heard the Hollywood myths about werewolves. Did they get anything right?

Abby: Howling at the moon, that’s not a myth.

Brynn: Getting furry with the full moon isn’t either. Though it’s more wolf than wolfman.

Joe: Carnivorous tendencies. Don’t forget those. But we reserve it for steak, not people.

Keith: Most of us, anyways.

Lillie: Brynn, as the newest member of this group, what has been the most difficult transition?

Brynn: The lack of privacy. Wolves have killer hearing and pretty good senses of smell, and sometimes they don’t realize that it’d be polite to pretend they’re not using them.

Lillie: Joe, do you have any advice for those wanting to come to Red Rock?

Joe: For a visit or to stay? First off, no one could ever find us. And if you want to stay… Well, let’s just say I’m a big fan of knowing what you’re getting yourself into.

Brynn: He’s not kidding.  He’s a little pigheaded about it, in fact.

Lillie: What do you all hope the future holds for Red Rock Pass?

Abby: A little peace and quiet would be nice.

Keith: Or a lot of peace and quiet.

Lillie: One last question. I keep hearing whispers of “Vampire Lumberjack.” Can anyone shed some light on this?

Keith: I hear he’s an old friend of our alpha’s.  Some hermit who lives in the woods of Maine whittling furniture in a depressive funk. Vampires are some damn whiny bitches.

Abby: I still don’t know why everyone waited so long to tell me they even existed.

Brynn: Rampant insecurity?

Keith: More like because it doesn’t matter.  Vampires stick to themselves…usually.  We’re not likely to see any around these parts. And if we do–well, that’s a lot of mess and a whole lot more trouble than I want to think about. Which probably means it’s about to happen.

Lillie: Thanks again to everyone for joining us today. Sanctuary will be available in April and is up for pre-order at Amazon. Also, Cry Sanctuary and Sanctuary Lost are available now as individual purchases in digital format.

But you don’t necessarily have to wait until April to get your hands on this book. Moira Rogers has offered to give away a signed ARC of Sanctuary to one lucky person! All you have to do to be entered is to leave a comment on this post. Good luck! 😀

Welcome to Shifter Week!

Welcome to Shifter Week! From the furry to the scaly and everything in between, we love our shifters here. In fact, we love them so much, we’ve decided to dedicate the whole week to those alpha males that makes us go want to go “RAWR” and the heroines that win their hearts.
