A review of Primal Male by Sasha White

WOW! I just finished reading my first Sasha White book Primal Male.

I’m normally a slow reader, so a book really has to be awesome for me to sit down and read it one afternoon.

Primal Male has mystery, intrigue, and some extremely hot sex rolled into one very enjoyable book. Sasha writing is descriptive and captivating and I could not put this book down once I started reading it.

The hero Drake Wheeler is big, blond, dangerous and extremely alpha. He is also an empath, who shuts himself off from the world. The heroine Melissa Montrose is sassy, confident, and a pure-blood shifter. She has kept her secret of being a pure-blood shifter a secret from everyone is a small town, where everybody knows everyone.

In just one afternoon with Primal Male, Sasha White has become an auto-buy & must read author for me. I will definitely be working through her backlist, starting with Sexy Devil. Primal Male is actually the sequel to Sexy Devil.

Primal Male

Primal Male

Surrender to your wildest instincts…

PRIMAL POWER
An empath with the ability to sense others’ emotions, Drake Wheeler has survived by keeping his own feelings shut off from the world. But nothing has prepared him for the sudden smoldering need that overtakes him in the presence of pureblood shape shifter Melissa Montrose. Even more surprising—he can’t sense anything around the sultry bookstore owner…except for his fierce urge to take her here, now, over and over again…

PRIMAL HEAT
Melissa has lived her life in a small town, hiding her family’s mysterious birthright. A fling with the sexy tourist who wanders into her bookstore seems like a delicious, temporary diversion, until Drake touches her in exactly the way she craves, teasing and tempting every inch of her body into explosive ecstasy. Drake’s obviously a man with secrets, but Melissa’s got a few of her own, and she’s going to show him just how wild and raw pure, primitive desire can be…

WooHoo – I Love Your Blog Award

i_love_your_blog_award

I have been given the I Love Your Blog award by Jambrea. Jambrea is just way cool and has always made me feel welcome in the various yahoo chat groups we belong to as well as the blogging world. In addition her first published story Forever Guy will be apart of the One Touch One Glance Anthology available from Freya’s Bower on December 9, 2009.

So in return I get to give this award to seven other blogs, which is almost impossible. There are so many awesome blogs out there.

So here are my seven.

Jennifer’s Random Musings – Jennifer’s blog was one of the first reader blogs I discovered. She is also one of the first people I contacted about with questions about blogging. She is super nice and does an amazing job with her blog.

Novel Thoughts & Book Talk (Mad’s/Fatin’s Place) – Mad/Fatin is just awesome. She walked me through setting up my blog step by step. I am amazed at the information she can find on new books coming out, new authors, new covers. I check her blog several times a day.

Maya Banks – Maya blog was the first author blog I ever read or commented on.

Jaci Burton’s Muse – Jaci is super cool and rocks. She was the first Writeminded author I’ve met in person.

Lauren Dane – Lauren just rocks. Lauren was also the first author I sent an e-mail to and the first author to respond to me.

Cynthia Eden – Cynthia is absolutely cool. She responds to the comments left on her blog. Cynthia was also my very first guest author interview.

Shelley Bradley/Shayla Black – The very first author I met in person. I look forward to Monday’s because of the awesome eye-candy she posts on her blog.

Please Welcome, Lauren Dane

I am so excited to have Lauren Dane as my guest today. She is one of my absolute authors.

Can you tell everyone a little bit about yourself?

Well I’m Lauren Dane and I’ve been writing professionally since 2004 when I sold my first book, Triad to Ellora’s Cave.  I live in the Northwest with my very patient husband and three very wild children. When I’m not writing or picking children up, I’m trying to pretend that stack of laundry four feet high is invisible. (What? Everyone else in this house does!)

How long have you been writing?

Pretty much my whole life. I’ve written poetry and short stories for as long as I can remember. In high school and college I wrote editorials and essays for the newspaper, etc.  It wasn’t until I was on bed rest for a high risk pregnancy that I had the time and thought I should give professional novel writing a try.

What is your writing process like?

Well I’ve got three kids and a husband so my days are filled with lots of non writing stuff, picking up, dropping off, making food, doing laundry, grocery shopping – all that jazz. So my main time to write is at night after everyone goes down for quiet time and bed.

I write about three hours or so every night and whatever I can manage during the day and I can usually turn out about 3K words daily, sometimes more, sometimes less.

Procedurally? I usually start  out with a yellow lined legal pad and 3×5 cards and I begin to draw the world and characters. I sketch out a loose outline for most of my books these days (since I have to submit with synopses anyway). Then I start writing.

Most of the time, I learn my characters and why they do what they do as I go along. They reveal themselves to me as I write, which is always a wonderful thing when I have that “AHA!!”  moment with each book and it all clicks into place.

Can you tell us a little bit about your upcoming releases Holiday Seduction, Sweet Charity & Undercover?

Holiday Seduction

Holiday Seduction

Holiday Seduction is a print anthology with the ever so talented Jaci Burton. She and I wrote holiday novellas last year at the holidays and Samhain decided to put them together in print. My story is To Do List which is a contemporary friends to lovers, erotic romance featuring Belle, a very anal retentive lawyer and Rafe, a very laid back farmer and set in Davis, California. She’s working through some big changes in her life and her career and he’s got to let it happen.

Sweet Charity

Sweet Charity

Sweet Charity, which comes out digitally on December 23, follows a year later from To Do List with Rafe’s brother Gabriel and a family friend, Charity. Rafe is a very bad boy and Charity happens to be a very nice girl and a friend since childhood.  They had a horrible one night stand ten years before and she has wondered if it was her fault ever since. He’s been holding her off since then thinking that was best for her, that she needed a nice guy and she’s finally had it and drops herself into his life and seduces him.  It was a lot of fun to write, a wonderful friends to lovers story and some opposites attract stuff too.

Undercover

Undercover

And Undercover, which is my first single title from Berkley Heat comes out December 2. It’s a futuristic ménage erotic romance with BDSM elements. It’s about a female soldier, Sera, who lost the great love of her life, Ash, ten years prior only to find herself thrust into an assignment with him and his partner, Brandt. There’s a bit of suspense because there are traitors in their midst and she has to go undercover, posing as Brandt’s lover and before long, Ash’s too and the game turns real.

(readers can go to my website www.laurendane.com to read blurbs and excerpts from all three!)

Where do you get your ideas for your books?

Oh all over the place! Sometimes a song lyric, sometimes a snippet of dialog will come to me, or I’ll see a picture and think about a hero or heroine. I got the idea for Triad from a trip to New Orleans (pre Katrina). It’s such a magical city it just appealed to me to be the setting for a story filled with magic.

Other than paranormal, do you write in any other romance sub-genre? If not would you like to and if so what sub-genres?

I write contemporary, futuristic, speculative fiction, urban fantasy and paranormal. I wish I had the voice to write historicals, I love to read them, but I just don’t have it.

Do your characters talk to you? (If so who talks more your heroes or heroines?)

No. But they do find their way into more scenes than I intend sometimes – Polly Chase is very pushy when I write. She likes page time!  And Nina Reyes-Warden from my Cascadia Wolves series is like that as well.

As an author, you must be an avid reader. What books do you enjoy reading? Who are your auto-buy authors?

I love to read and I read across pretty much every genre. I love science fiction of most stripes from Asimov’s Foundation and Robot books to William Gibson’s cyber punk. I like dystopian novels a lot – Margaret Atwood’s Handmaid’s Tale is a favorite. Post apocalyptic novels, horror, some fantasy also find their way into my TBR pile.  I love romance  across the board from historicals to futuristics.

As for auto buy authors? I am a huge Linda Howard fan, Anne Stuart (who can break all my “OH NO YOU DIDN’T” rules and I love her anyway), William Gibson, Margaret Atwood, Sheri Tepper, Frank Herbert, Marge Piercy, Jaci Burton, Megan Hart, Kim Harrison, Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Charlaine Harris, Lisa Kleypas, Patricia Briggs, Eileen Wilks, Cynthia Eden, Ann Aguirre, Maya Banks, old Elizabeth Lowell novels – I’m sure I’m leaving people out.

What books are on your keep shelf?

All of the Foundation books and the Robot books by Isaac Asimov, The Dune Series by Frank Herbert, Neuromancer and Mona Lisa Overdrive by William Gibson, Richard Morgan’s Altered Carbon, the Kim Harrison Hollows books, Jenny Crusie’s Welcome To Temptation, JD Robb’s Naked In Death, Lisa Kleypas’ Devil in Winter,  SEP’s Match Me If You Can, Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings, Stoker’s Dracula, Stephen King’s The Stand, Linda Howard’s Mr. Perfect and After the Night, Emma Holly’s Personal Assets

Do you read books other than romance books?

Sure!

What was the first romance book you read?

Welcome to Temptation and Emma Holly’s Menage

If one of your books was made into a movie, which book would you like it to be and which actors would like to see as the lead characters?

Oh my, this is so hard! Probably Relentless which comes out in May of 09 from Berkley Heat with Daniel Craig as Roman Lyons and Salma Hayek as Abbie.

If you could switch lives with one of your characters who would if be & why?

I’m pretty lucky in my life! But I wouldn’t complain to be Tracy from TriMates!

What are you currently working on?

Always – a contemporary romance set in Seattle – for Samhain.

When you are not writing or reading, what do you enjoying doing in your spare time?

Hanging out with my kids or husband. Reading. Having lunch with friends. Book shopping!

A review of Undercover by Lauren Dane

I discovered Lauren Dane this time last year and fell in love. Not only with her books but her ability to create new and exciting worlds. The first books I read of hers were ASCENSION & FIRE AND RAIN from her Cherchez Pack Series.

In the past year, whenever I entered a new world created by Lauren Dane, I have fallen in love with the world, the characters and the story. Lauren Dane’s first Berkley release UNDERCOVER is no different.

UNDERCOVER has everything I love in a book suspense, mystery, heartbreak, healing, and sex scenes so hot that a glass of ice-cold water is required at all times while reading this book.  Additionally the story some of my favorite themes or hooks m/f/m ménage, BDSM, lovers reunited, and going against family & traditions for true love.

I fell in love with the heroes of Ash Walker and Brandt Pela. Ash & Brandt are strong, sexy, dominate and as alpha as any of Lauren’s werewolves. Once they decide that Sera is the woman for them they treat her with such tenderness and love that it brings tears to my eyes.

The heroine Sera is strong, confident and well aware of her aware of her accomplishments and fears. I can also relate to Sera in that while, she has achieved much through hard work and determination. However, despite all that she has accomplished, she still looked down on because of her birth status.

Anytime I read a book and can laugh out-loud one minute and cry tears the next is a definite keeper. Lauren Dane has truly outdone herself with UNDERCOVER and I cannot wait to see what she has planned next for this world. I hope everyone reads and falls in love with book as much as I have.

UNDERCOVER

UNDERCOVER

A sexy debut exploring an erotic future universe of passion, danger, and deceit…

On the battleground or in the bedroom, one woman and two men fight for dominance in a bold, new, and excitingly different direction in erotica…

As a lieutenant of the Federation military, Sera Ayers is accustomed to giving orders, not taking them. Now she must obey the one man she can’t stand—and can’t stop thinking about.

With the enemy Imperialists gaining ground, a covert team is assembled by Ash Walker. Ten years before, Sera had lovingly submitted to Ash’s dominance in the bedroom. But when he was forced into a political marriage, she refused to play mistress. His marriage now over, Ash wants Sera on his team—and back in his bed.

The third team member, Brandt Pela, has an elegance to match Ash’s savage sexuality. And when their undercover plan requires Sera to pose as Brandt’s lover, it ignites a passion among the three of them more dangerous than their mission.

UNDERCOVER release on December 2, 2008 and can be pre-ordered through Amazon, Books-A-Million, Borders, and Barnes & Noble.

Come back tomorrow when Lauren Dane will be my guest.

Please Welcome Cynthia Eden

I am so excited to have my first guest author today. Please welcome Cynthia Eden, who graciously agreed to doing an interview with me.

Can you tell everyone a little bit about yourself?

Sure, but first—thank you so much for inviting me to your blog, Greta!  J

Hi, everyone!  I’m Cynthia, and I write paranormals. And I write them, because, well, I love them. Love vampires and shifters and demons…oh, my.  LOL.

How long have you been writing?

Hmmm…I’ve written as long as pretty much can remember, and I completed my first manuscript when I was 18 (a long, long time ago…), but for the last five years, I would say that I have been really buckling down and focusing on my craft.

What is your writing process like?

I write 10 pages a day, pretty much everyday when I am working on a manuscript. I go through the first draft in about 40-45 days (no weekend breaks), and then, when I’d finished with that draft, I let the story sit for about a week. I like that “sitting” time because it allows me to get some distance from the story so that when I go back for my editing, I can look at the writing with a more critical eye.  I generally do one long, editing/revising check which lasts about two weeks.

Midnight Sins

Midnight Sins

Can you tell us a little bit about your upcoming release – Midnight Sins?

MIDNIGHT SINS is the second book in my “Midnight” trilogy (HOTTER AFTER MIDNIGHT was the first releases.)  The hero in MIDNIGHT SINS is Detective Todd Brooks (Colin’s partner) and his heroine, well, she’s a succubus.  I think of this story as Basic Instinct meets The X-Files.

Where did you get the concept or idea for this book?

The hero and heroine for this book were both introduced in HOTTER AFTER MIDNIGHT.  Cara, the heroine, was the succubus who wanted love, not sex (she was one of Dr. Emily Drake’s paranormal patients).  And, meanwhile, Todd was the unsuspecting human—the guy who didn’t know about all the supernatural beings in the world around him. I really wanted to pair Todd up with one of the Other and Cara seemed perfect for him. So, I started this book with the characters, and the plot developed from their interactions.

Hotter After Midnight
Hotter After Midnight

Midnight Sins is the sequel to Hotter After Midnight, will there be anymore books in this series?

 Yes—one more.  J

In July of 09, MIDNIGHT’S MASTER will hit the bookshelves.  That book—well, it’s my demon Niol’s story.  Niol also plays a very important role in MIDNIGHT SINS.  I won’t tell you exactly what he does, don’t want to be spoilerish, but the story wouldn’t be the same without him!

Other than paranormal, do you write in any other romance sub-genre? If not would you like to and if so what sub-genres?

Oh, good question! I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately, and I’d enjoy also writing romantic suspense stories.  I’ve had so much fun with the suspense elements in my paranormals that I think I’d like to try straight RS. I’d also be open to writing paranormal YA.  Over the holidays, I might try writing one, just for fun.

Do your characters talk to you?            Yes!!

(If so who talks more your heroes or heroines?)

Well, that depends on the story.  For my March 09 release, IMMORTAL DANGER, my heroine Maya talked to me—and she talked loudly. All the time.

But, when I was writing the first book in my paranormal bounty hunter series (still untitled, sorry!), Jude (the white tiger shifter hero) talked to me more.  He stayed in my head to the extent that I would literally tell my husband, “You know, Jude would never do that…” Or “Jude would say…”  At one point, the hubby told me, “You know he’s not real, right?”  I just gave him THE STARE in reply.

As an author, you must be an avid reader. What books do you enjoy reading? Who are your auto-buy authors?

I do so enjoy reading. I love paranormals (of course!) and funny contemporaries. My auto-buys?  Christine Feehan, Larissa Ione, Angela Knight, Alyssa Day, Lora Leigh, Jayne Ann Krentz, Linda Howard…oh, I don’t think I have enough space to write them all.  I have way, way too many favorites!

What books are on your keep shelf?

I have piles and piles of keeper books.  I’ve got books that are old and yellow from the 80s (the old Jayne Castle Guinevere Jones books), and I’ve got new books like Lora Leigh’s MERCURY’S WAR.

Do you read books other than romance books?

Sometimes I read horror novels, but I really like my happy endings, so romances are my primary books.

What was the first romance book you read?

THE ASKING PRICE by Amanda Browning. It was a Harlequin Romance. After that—I was addicted to romance novels.

If one of your books was made into a movie, which book would you like it to be and which actors would like to see as the lead characters?

I’d love to see HOTTER AFTER MIDNIGHT made into a movie. (A girl can so dream.)  But, honestly, I have no ideas about the actors.  Maybe Kate Beckinsale as Emily Drake and Gerard Butler as Colin.  Hey—if I’m dreaming, I’ll dream big!

If you could switch lives with one of your characters who would if be & why?

Oh, I don’t know if I’d want to switch lives with them. They have a lot of drama going on—I like my easy, quiet life better, I think.

Immortal Danger
Immortal Danger

What will be your next release after Midnight Sins?

IMMORTAL DANGER will release on March 31, 2009. It’s set in the same world as my Midnight books, but none of the Midnight characters appear in this book. My heroine is a vampire and my hero is a dragon shifter.  This book has a strong urban fantasy feel—or, at least, I think it does.

What are you currently working on?

My second paranormal bounty hunter book.  My heroine has just been attacked by an Ignitor (like Drew Barrymore in the Firestarter movie).  Trying to put out the flames now…

When you are not writing or reading, what do you enjoying doing in your spare time?

I go to the movies—a lot. I love the escaping into a good movie (just like I enjoy escaping into a good book).

Thank you for taking the time to interview me!  I had a great time responding to these questions.
