Jennifer Haymore is visiting today

A Hint of Wicked 052809

Jennifer, Thank you for agreeing to be a guest on my blog.

Thank you for having me!

Can you tell everyone a little bit about yourself?

I grew up in Hawaii, went to college and grad school in California. Met my husband in college and we married a week after graduation! His job has kept us in California, though we’d love to have the opportunity to live in other states someday. We have three kids who keep us very busy.

How long have you been writing?

I’ve been writing forever, but with the goal to become published since my daughter was born. She’ll be five in a few weeks!

What is your writing process like?

I tend to get most of my quality writing done late at night when everyone else is in bed and the house is quiet. Which makes me tired and cranky (and unproductive) during the day. To combat this, I drink lots of coffee!

Can you tell us about your newest release A Hint Of Wicked?

A HINT OF WICKED takes place in Regency London. It’s about a woman who loses her beloved husband at Waterloo. Pregnant and alone, she picks up the pieces and learns strength and independence, and years later, she falls in love again. A few months into her new marriage, her first husband returns. Both men want her; she’s in love with both. It’s a tangle of emotions and passions complicated by a sinister threat to all their lives.

Is Hint of Wicked a stand-alone book or the beginning of a series?

It’s the beginning of a three-book series. The second book, A TOUCH OF SCANDAL, is about the man who “loses” in the love triangle of A HINT OF WICKED. The third book resolves the story of a secondary character whose life is in turmoil throughout the first two books.

Do you write under any other names?

Yes, I write erotic romance as Dawn Halliday. Right now, Dawn is focusing on Scottish erotics…and oooh…I love writing about Highlanders!

Do you have any other books coming out this year?

HIGHLAND OBSESSION, Scottish erotic romance, releases on August 4

Also, I have a story in A HIGHLANDER CHRISTMAS, to be released in November, written with the amazing authors Sophie Renwick and Cindy Miles.

My next Jennifer Haymore book, A TOUCH OF SCANDAL, will be an April, 2010 release.

What are you currently working on?

I’m currently putting the finishing touches on HIGHLAND SURRENDER, the second book in my Scottish series for NAL, which will be released next April.

Where do you get your ideas for your books?

I brainstorm a lot with my husband. He has very male ideas, but all in all, they’re very original ideas. We end up battling over plot points a lot, because his male mind sometimes works in quite unromantic ways, but I love how he makes me think differently about things. He’s my idea man and my idea “bouncer.”

As an author, you must be an avid reader. What books do you enjoy reading? Who are your auto-buy authors?

I love reading, and I have eclectic tastes. I enjoy any and all stories that have sympathetic, relatable characters and that grip onto me and won’t let me go.

My auto-buy authors…hmmm…Diana Gabaldon, Laura Kinsale, Elizabeth Hoyt, Maya Banks.

What books are on your keeper shelf?

I edit at Samhain Publishing, so all the books I’ve edited there have a coveted spot on my keeper shelf. I also keep my favorite books by my auto-buy authors.

What was the first romance book you read or the first romance book that has stood the test of time?

FLOWERS FROM THE STORM by Laura Kinsale was one of the first romances I ever read that has stood the test of time. I loved the relationship, the tortured hero, the conflicted heroine. Wonderful stuff!

If one of your books was made into a movie, which book would you like it to be and which actors would like to see as the lead characters?

A HINT OF WICKED, definitely. Casting it is hard because I can’t think of anyone who exactly “fits” the characters as they are in my mind. But here’s my best attempt:

Sophie: Rachel McAdams

Garrett: Hugh Jackman

Tristan: Christian Bale

If you could switch lives with one of your characters who would if be & why?

Hmmm, maybe Sophie, the heroine of A HINT OF WICKED. She’s rich, titled, lives in a beautiful home, wears beautiful clothing, has servants at her beck and call, and she has two amazing, powerful, handsome men madly in love with her!

If you were not writing, what would you be doing?

Sleeping!

Oh, but as a career? LOL! Hmmm, well, I’d probably go back into acting.

When you are not writing or reading, what do you enjoying doing in your spare time?

I have tons of hobbies, but most of all, I enjoy hanging out with my family.

If you could ask readers anyone question, what would it be?

What is the most gripping romance you’ve ever read?
