Q&A (plus giveaway) with Lorie O’Clare

Hi Lorie! Thank you for joining us today. Can you tell everyone a little bit about yourself?

Hi there! Well, I’m a single mother. I have three teenage boys, ages 18, 16 and 13. We live in Kansas with our Boston Terrier, Beagle and two American Short Hairs who are kind enough to share their home with us.

How long have you been writing?

All of my life, or at least since I’ve been able to write words on paper. I have a spiral notebook (actually about 10 notebooks) full of stories I wrote when I was very young. I think I was very much into Jane Austen back then as each sentence is about a page long. J I’ve always written stories.

What is your writing process like?

I don’t really think of myself as having a routine but I guess I do. I wake up around 5am, have my alone time, get the boys up and off to school, run any errands I need to do, answer emails and check out any blogs or other sites people have suggested I look at, then start writing. I can’t really tell you how many hours a day I write. My standard answer is all day. Even when I’m not writing somewhere in my brain I’m working on the book. When I start writing my usual process is to read the previous three or four pages from when I last wrote, just to get back into the feel of things and refresh myself as to where I’m going. I usually write anywhere from ten to fifty pages a day in a word doc. It depends on how many interruptions there are.

Can you tell us about your newest release, Strong Sleek and Sinful?

Sure! I’d love to! I’ve been so excited about Perry and Kylie’s story coming out. Kylie is an FBI agent. When she was a young teen, her older, perfect sister was abducted, raped and killed. They never found her murderer. Kylie has dedicated her life to bringing criminals to justice. As an FBI agent her specialty is on-line predators. She’s known for taking down serial murderers who feast on teenagers on line.

Perry is a cop in Mission Hills, KS. He’s single with no kids but has helped his sister raise her three daughters ever since her husband was killed in the line of duty. He gets fed up that his Chief doesn’t think he knows what he’s talking about with teenagers being abducted since he’s never been a father. Perry wants the case involving teenage girls disappearing when it appears an on line predator is seducing them and posing as a teenage boy. The Chief doesn’t want to give Perry the case at first. All clues point to the on line predator being someone on the police force.

Kylie has a hard time avoiding Perry since his nieces have been helping her and showing her the boys they talk to on line. The romantic interest between Kylie and Perry is growing dangerously hot but whatever she does, Kylie can’t let Perry know she’s undercover. But when he does eventually find out he’ll never forgive her. Kylie can’t risk losing someone she loves again.

What’s next for you and do you have other books releasing this year?

I am in two anthologies coming out in the next couple of months, Men Of Danger and The Bodyguard Anthology. I also have a bounty hunter series coming out with St Martins in October. And I have a black jag series coming out with Ellora’s Cave in April.

Where do you get your ideas for your books?

From my warped brain.  😀

As an author, you must be an avid reader. What books do you enjoy reading?

Honestly, I love reading historicals…Hannah Howell, I recently discovered Monica McCarty, she’s great. I also love the romantic suspenses. I read very little paranormals. I don’t want to be influenced by anyone else’s ideas.

If you could switch lives with one of your characters, who would it be & why?

Probably it would be Meah in my Nuworld Series. She got the man of her dreams and won out over all obstacles in romance and in life.

When you are not writing or reading, what do you enjoying doing in your spare time?

I love painting. I think everything hanging on our walls is something I’ve made. I love creating life on canvas even when its with colored pencils or charcoals or paint. And I love my flower gardens although I can only do that during the Spring before it gets too hot.

If you could ask readers any question, what would it be?

Why do you like my books? 😀

Where can readers find you on the internet?

  1. Hi Lorie
Love your books. After I read Tall, Dark & Deadly, I started on your backlist like Caught etc. I read mostly contemps & romantic suspense. I like that you balance romance & suspense very well.

  2. Hi Lorie- I actually have not read any of your books, you would be a new author to me. I am interested in your take on the romantic suspense genre though as it looks like you have quite a few books coming out that I would be interested in. I have already pre-ordered Men of Danger and look forward to reading your story in it.

  3. Lorie – I pre-bought The Bodyguard, which will be my first chance to read your work. I’m guessing I’m going to love your stories… big sexy alphas…. hot hot hot!

  4. These sound like great stories and I can’t wait to get my hands on them! I love Lorie’s books…I have her shifter romances that I always pull out to re-read.

  5. I’ve only read Tall, Dark and Deadly and Pleasure Island. They both have suspense, but are really different. I think I enjoyed Pleasure Island more because it was unexpected, no spoilers, but I was expecting just a romp in the sun but the story was much more than that.

  6. STRONG, SLEEK, AND SINFUL sounds good. I’ve put it on my TBB list.

  7. Strong Sleek and Sinful sounds awesome!!! To answer your question… I actually have not read any as of yet! But I am definitely adding this to my to by list! 😀

  8. cool interview:)

  9. I have not actually read any of your books yet but I do have Tall, Dark, and Deadly on my TBR pile. I love romantic suspense novels and can’t wait to check yours out.

  10. Sadly I have not read any of your books either but I have heard great things from two other friends about your books.

Awww! My ebil SIL loves Boston Terriers. We use to have one once, and he was an ornery little thing. Now we just have wiener doggies.

Oooh I envy you. I don’t have the tolerance or patience for paints and charcoal. No my thing is more colored pencils. Mind if I ask what brand of color pencils you use? I am a color pencil snob for there is only one brand I will use and that is prisma colors

  11. I like the way you balance romance and suspense.

  12. I enjoy the intense action in your books which throws the h/h together. The heroes are always strong and sexy and your heroines are smart and able to handle things themselves. You have a lot of great sounding books coming out that I’d love to read.

  13. Hi Lorie,
I haven’t read your books yet but Strong Sleek and Sinful is on my TRL and the cover is great. I enjoyed your interview.

  14. I like the action/suspense and the romance. Your books always hold my attention. I can’t wait to read Strong, Sleek and Sinful. My copy is on my desk waiting to be read!

  15. Congrats on the new release, Lorie. I love that your books are full of action and dramatic twists and you make us care about the characters.

  16. Nice interview. I really like the covers. All of the books sounds like they’ll be good reads.

  17. Because they are always a great read. They move along at a great pace with romance and a lot of action.

  18. Hi Lorie, I love paranormal romances, and your booklist gives me so many great shifter stories to pick from. Love the characters (especially your heroes), and your writing gives me great suspense and the perfect amount of sexual chemistry.

Congrats on your new release. I haven’t had a chance to start your FBI series yet, but it is definitly up on my tbb list.

  19. I think it is too cool that there are so many here who haven’t read any of my books. Too often I find myself surrounded by those who’ve read my books and all have comments or questions. This is such a breath of fresh air. Hopefully you’ll find something among my many different books that will appeal to you. I write romantic suspense, werewolves, other shape shifters including leopards, owls and a black jaguar series coming out soon. I’ve written science fiction romance, fantasy, and a couple erotic thrillers.
One of you asked me about my colored pencils I use when I draw. I admit, I’m not a brand snob, yet. But, I am incredibly picky about my pencil sharpener and have this thing about needing my pencils to be incredibly sharp. The moment they start dulling when I’m drawing, back into the sharpener they go. Needless to say, I go through a lot of colored pencils. I have a flower arrangement I drew and is hanging up in my bathroom. I love using pencils because I can blend so well just by the amount of pressure I add–and it’s so easy to fix a mistake. 🙂
Thanks to all of you for reading my interview. I hope all of you enjoy STRONG SLEEK AND SINFUL and come back to read many of my books for years to come.

  20. Congrats on the new release, Lorie; it sounds exciting. I look forward in reading your works.

    Thanks.

  21. Lorie, that is me that asked the question about the colored pencils. My friend Joyce got me a 24 set of prisma-colors for my birthday, once I used those I could not go back to the others I use to use.

The colors are more vibrant and they blend oh so easily and nicely. What I like most, you can buy the prisma colored pencils individually. So if there is a particular color that you tend to use often, you don’t have to buy an entire set of crayola for that one color.

  22. I will have to check out the prisma bland. So far I’ve only done flower arrangements with pencils. I have painted my lunewulfs and Malta werewolves and I’ve even used paint on the computer to create the houses some of my characters live in. I think it’s what helps me from getting writer’s block. When I want to develop a scene I start creating on paper, with a paint brush or pencil, or even sometimes with the click of a mouse.

  23. A new author to me, but I do look forward to reading your books after reading this post!

  24. Hi Lorie!
thanks for a very interesting interview *makingnotesonthebooks* Strong Sleek and Sinful sounds very interesting and I will def keep it in mind!
    I can’t answer your question… yet…because you are a new author to me 🙂
    Happy Easter,
    Ina

  25. I’m so excited about how many of you posted after my interview. You all make me feel very special. Thanks for the kind words from everyone. Happy Easter! Happy Passover! And please know if you have any specific questions about my books you can easily reach me at lorieoclare@aol.com. Just think of me as the lady next door. I’m easy to talk to, not too up on the local gossip, and usually found this time of year poking around my flower beds anxiously waiting for my tulips to open.
Thanks again to all of you, and may you always know romance and be confident of your HEA!
    Lorie

  26. I like the covers for these books and they sound good too. I like a good combination of sexy and thriller. Congrats on your success.

  27. Happy Easter, Lorie–I’ve got a couple of your titles on the TBR after hearing them recommended by some friends whose reading tastes I trust 🙂 And yep, gotta have that HEA!!
