Please Welcome Shelli Stevens

Shelli, Thanks for agreeing to be a guest on my blog.

Thanks for having me! I’m excited to be here 🙂

Can you tell everyone a little bit about yourself?

Well, let’s see. I’m a single mom living in the Pacific Northwest and completely addicted to volunteering for things (like being president of my local RWA chapter!).

How long have you been writing?

I’ve been writing since I was a young teen (complete crap then, but I loved it!), and started seriously writing to get published in my early twenties.

What is your writing process like?

Let’s see, I’m a bit of a cross between a pantser and a plotter. Though, now that I’m working more on proposal, I’ve become a plotter. I tend to purge the first few pages then delve into the synopsis. I also write at night when the kid is asleep.

Take Me Small

You have two new releases coming out Take Me and Luck Be Delanie, can you tell us about both of these?

Take Me is my first Kensington Aphrodisia release. It’s a very hot futuristic romance that I loved to write. It’s got a lot of action, sex and is romantic at the same time. Luck be Delanie is the second release in my Chances Are series (the first was Anybody but Justin which released in May). It’s a contemporary romance about a couple who might just find love when they’re given a second chance.

Do you have any other books coming out this year?

I do! I’m also a part of the Aphrodisia anthology Sexy Beast VII with Kate Douglas and Anitra Lynn McLeod, which releases September 1st. Then I have the third book in my Chances Are series, Protecting Phoebe, releasing in November.

What are you currently working on?

I’m working on a couple of proposals that I’ve sent to my editor. Hoping I get a green light!

Luck Be Delanie

Where do you get your ideas for your books?

Everything and anything. Seriously, I can be walking down the street, see something, and I’ll just get inspired.

As an author, you must be an avid reader. What books do you enjoy reading? Who are your auto-buy authors?

Cherry Adair and Karin Tabke are on my autobuy. But I read so many people and such a variety. I love historical (especially medieval) even though I don’t write it! I adore Lora Leigh, Jane Porter, and so much more. I’ll read anyone if the plot catches my interest.

What books are on your keeper shelf?

Hmm. My latest one I kept was Wild Card by Lora Leigh. It was just so hot and romantic and sweet. And with a bit of action. Loved it. I also kept my signed version of Jane Porter’s Flirting with Forty because it was so fabulous. Really I have a couple of shelves of keepers.

Anybody But Justin

Do you read books other than romance books?

I do. Sometimes I love a good action or suspense book (I got hooked on Daniel Silva for a bit!). And then just a good fiction book can grab my interest. But I have to say I avoid downer books, meaning anything that’s going to leave me depressed. I read for the escapism. I don’t want too much reality.

What was the first romance book you read?

Hmm. It was a Harlequin Presents I grabbed from my mom’s shelf. I can’t remember the title (something to do with a girl getting stranded on an island or something), but I loved it. My eyes were like half dollars the whole time. I read every romance novel on my mom’s shelf after that, and then filled out the form to join the Harlequin book club. I think I got in trouble for that part! LOL.

If one of your books was made into a movie, which book would you like it to be and which actors would like to see as the lead characters?

Hmm. I’d love my novella in Sexy Beast VII to be turned into a movie. Or Take Me. Both have good underlying action storylines. Of course they’d have to be toned down heat wise 😉 And as to actors. Hmmm. Maybe Gerard Butler or Joaquin Pheonix (pre-hippie zoned out days). Actresses, I’m pretty easy. 😛

If you could switch lives with one of your characters who would if be & why?

Hmmm. Probably Madison from Dangerous Grounds. She’s fit, rich, and falls for a sexy cop who’ll do anything for her.

When you are not writing or reading, what do you enjoying doing in your spare time?

I’m out talking walks, enjoying being out doors. If I get the chance to travel I love sightseeing historic places. I just love getting out and doing things. But if I’m not outside, chances are I’ve gotten sucked into the internet 😉

If you could ask readers anyone question, what would it be?

Are there any genres you wish had more books on the shelves? Or that you can’t find anymore?

  1. Hey Shelli and Greta!

Great interview and post. 🙂 I have “Take Me”, ordered and am looking forward to the read, it sounds great. Congrats on your first Kensington Aphrodisia release!!

I can’t think of any specific genres that I wish I had more of or can’t find any more. It seems like there is something for everyone out there right now!!

    Best
    L

  2. I definitely need to hit the ebookstore and pick up some more of your books. 🙂 I read Tempting Adam. I’m drawing a blank on genres I’d like to see more of – possibly I need another mug of mocha. 🙂

  3. Hi, Shelli! Congrats on Take Me! As for genres I want more of, I’m pretty happy with the variety I can find on the shelves already, but I do really like some stories that feature married couples or couples already in a relationship–sort of after the HEA, so to speak. I find it interesting how a relationship develops/evolves, and like to see how different couples deal with different long-term concerns.

  4. Good morning, Ms Stevens!

The genre I miss the most is historical romance set in the Middle Ages and up to Elizabethan times. A couple of decades ago (yes, I’m that old) there were a fair few, though they were never the most popular. These days, though, it’s like finding the proverbial needle in the haystack!

  5. Hi Shelli!
I love your books and the covers are fantastic 🙂
I think there are not enough stories with angels… I love them and their wings 😉
    Best wishes,
    Ina

  6. Whew, those books look hot and I can’t wait to read them. I loved the interview! Congrats on some outstanding looking reads!

    Val

  7. The only genre that I have had a hard time finding is erotic paranormal historicals, like Sharon Page’s vampires.

    Congrats on your new releases!

  8. Hi Greta and Shelli!!

Great interview, I have Tempting Adam at the top of my TBR and Take Me should be here today or tomorrow!! 🙂 Congrats on the new release

Genre I miss most……….time travel!! I love time travel books, some of my favs or KMM’s……..love the whole highlander thing! Oh and Sandra Hill’s Vikings/SEALS…..very funny!!

  9. OH, great interview! You’re a busy lady!

Hmm, the historicals I miss most. medieval’s with court intrigue. Anything set outside the norm: Austria during the Napoleonic Wars, Eastern Europe NOT with vampires (not that I don’t love a vampire novel!), middle 1800s, Canadian…I can go one lol.

  10. Hi Shelli. Great interview. I had to laugh when you said you got in trouble for subscribing to Harlequin. I can remember getting in trouble for finding my mom’s steamy books.

I don’t know if I am missing anything, but I haven’t come across historical books concerning shieks in Regency England in awhile.

Congrats again, on the release of TAKE ME!

  11. Hi, everyone! Thanks for the comments and feedback on genres! Lillie, my friend Kate Pearce just sold a series of historical vampire books (Tudor?) I believe! Look for that in the future!

Thank you, Greta for having me today! 🙂

  12. […] on by I do not want to wait i want the book now to see my interview and for a chance to win a copy of my book Anybody but […]

  13. Hi Greta and Shelli!

Great interview and congrats on your new release Shelli!

I would love to see more time travel books, books set in Egypt and back in the time of Jack the Ripper.

  14. I used to read historical romance books set in the Old West. The hero was a Native American and the heroine was a proper lady. Loved those!

  15. I love all genres, so it’s hard to choose one that I don’t have on my shelves. I guess I would purchase more contemporaries. I only recently started reading straight contemporaries, I thought I’d lost interest, but the recent ones I’ve read have been fantastic. So, I guess you could say I’ve re-discovered them.

    Dottie 🙂

  16. Hi Shelli. I will probably get crucified for saying this, but I would love to see more historicals with alpha guys, less of the warm and fuzzy beta types. This may be nostalgia speaking, though!

  17. Great interview!
I am pretty happy with the genres on the shelves now.

  18. Hey Shelli!!
Great interview! Congrats on the release!
I’m pretty happy with what I find out there right now…..Historicals, Paranormals, Erotica…..And many others!.
Thanks for the chance to win one of your great books!!
    ~Afshan

  19. Genres that I wish there was more on the shelves… Historical romances set in the Celtic times… with the clans, druids, etc. It doesn’t necessarily have to have the Roman influence..

  20. Want more of the Victorian Paranormal like Grave Sins by Jenna Maclaine.

  21. Hi Shelli! Congrats on the release of Take Me!
I’d love to see more sci-fi romance on the shelves (I’m kind of a nerd!) There are some great novellas put out in digital by publishers like Changling Press, but as far as full length print, not much is out there.

  22. Great interview! Congratulations on your new release! I think that I can always find what it is that I am looking for on the bookshelves. Sometimes I don’t even know what that something is, and I will stumble upon a great author, and then I am hooked!

    Thanks~
    Amy M

  23. Hi Shelli,

Congrats on the release! I would have to say alien and sci-fi romance.

  24. Thanks to everyone who commented! The winner is AztecLady, if you could email me at shelli @shellistevens.com and let me know what format you’d like.

Also, Cheryl, my book Take Me is a futuristic! Heavier on the romance than futuristic part though 😛

  25. Hi Shelli.
    Great interview.
I’d like to find more time travel books on the shelves.
