Jaci Burton takes over today

I am super excited because my guest today is Jaci Burton.

Jaci, Thanks for agreeing to be a guest on my blog.

Thanks for having me here, Greta!

Can you tell everyone a little bit about yourself?

I live on an acre and a half in Oklahoma with my husband and five dogs. Between my husband and I we have three children—one in college, one who’s a teacher, one in sales. We also have a 5 year old granddaughter who’s our pride and joy.

How long have you been writing?

I’ve been seriously writing for about 7 years now, published for 5.

What is your writing process like?

I typically write every day, though lately I’m trying to take weekends off—unless I’m on deadline. I do my best writing in the mornings and afternoons, then I crash around 3:30 and need a break for awhile. I can write again in the early evening. But really, my writing is pretty flexible around whatever else is going on in my life. The book gets done no matter what else is going on.

Can you tell us a little bit about your upcoming release Unraveled? This is Mitch & Greta’s book, correct.

Unraveled

Unraveled

Yes it is. Unraveled takes a character—Mitch—who appeared in last year’s holiday book, Unwrapped. A lot of my readers really liked Mitch and wanted me to give him his own story, so I created Unraveled for him. Mitch is a millionaire, a former world class surfer and a man who definitely needed a woman to fall in love with. I think he found that with Greta, a woman from his home town. She’s nothing like the women he typically associates with so Mitch is kind of out of his element with Greta. She changes his entire perspective on life and romance. It was a fun book to write, very sexy and yet very romantic and family oriented too.

I know you have written paranormal romances, contemporary romances, and erotic romances, do you write in any other romance sub-genre? If not would you like to and if so what sub-genres?

I’ve written in almost every sub-genre except historical, and that’s not a genre I’d like to tackle. I might like to do horror someday. Or a thriller. But really, I’m very grounded in romance and I think I’ll stay here. The idea of writing a book without a romance currently has no appeal to me.

Where do you get your ideas for your books?

Everywhere and anywhere. An idea for a story will usually just pop into my head, usually when I’m relaxed and my mind is clear. It’s really hard to say where the idea comes from, because it really does come from nowhere. I might be watching tv and an idea will just pop into my head, or I’ll be in the car or lying in bed and there it is—a story idea.

Now, I happen to understand that your characters talk to you. Who talks the loudest your heroes or heroines?

Depends on what scene I need to write. If it’s a heavy hero scene then the hero will dominate—or if it’s a heavy heroine scene then she will. Or if I’m struggling with a scene, sometimes both characters will dominate my mind so I can get a clear picture of where a scene needs to go.

As an author, you must be an avid reader. What books do you enjoy reading? Who are your auto-buy authors?

I have so many auto buy authors, so many that I love reading. Of course since I’m part of the Writeminded author group I loved all the authors’ books—Larissa Ione, Stephanie Tyler, Maya Banks and Amy Knupp are all tremendous authors. I also love Nalini Singh, Meljean Brook, Lara Adrian, Kristan Higgins, Lora Leigh, Lauren Dane, Roxanne St Claire, Nora Roberts, JD Robb, Linda Howard and the list could go on and on… lol

What books are on your keep shelf?

Any book an author has signed for me goes on my keeper shelf. I also have several old Elizabeth Lowell and Kathleen Woodiwiss books that I still treasure and reread because they’re my favorites.

Do you read books other than romance books?

Sometimes, not very often. I do like to read suspense so occasionally I’ll step out of romance and read those.

What was the first romance book you read?

Kathleen Woodiwiss’s The Flame And The Flower

If one of your books was made into a movie, which book would you like it to be and which actors would like to see as the lead characters?

I think Surviving Demon Island, the first book in my Demon Hunter series, would make a great movie. I’d cast Gerard Butler as Derek and Angelina Jolie as Gina.

If you could switch lives with one of your characters who would if be & why?

This is always such a tough question. Probably Lily from Riding Wild. She’s a private investigator and knows her way around a gun, plus she gets to ride with Mac on his Harley. Fun stuff. J

What are you currently working on?

I’m currently working on Riding The Edge (tentative title), the 4th book in my Wild Riders biker series for Berkley Heat. It’s a novella and will be paired in a duet anthology with Lora Leigh, and will be released late next year.

When you are not writing or reading, what do you enjoying doing in your spare time?

I love watching tv—it’s how I relax. I can’t get enough of reality television. Survivor, The Bachelor, The Amazing Race, America’s Next Top Model, Project Runway, So You Think You Can Dance, American Idol—these are my fun relaxation shows. I also love to ride on the Harley with my husband, I love to read and travel—anyplace with an ocean and beach and I’m there!

If you could ask readers anyone question, what would it be?

I always love to know what they’re reading, who their favorite authors are, and what books they recommend.

  1. I love your books Jaci 🙂 I am currently rereading suriving demon island and also am rereading a book by julie Garwood called ” murder list” … but I have a question for you ? if you could write up a title for a reality tv show , what would you call it ?

  2. Greta, you really do such great interviews!

What am I currently reading? Well…I JUST finished reading TA Chase’s The Vanguard and I’m getting ready to start reading an anthology with JR Ward and Sherylin Kenyon. Two of my auto buys. Another auto buy for me is JD Robb, Larissa’s Demon series and Jaci’s Demon series. 😀

  3. Hi y’all and thanks again to Greta for letting me be here today!

Heh….great question April! How about “What’s cooking in your kitchen?” I also really like to cook and never have enough time to do it. How about a reality show where people cook? I’d watch that. I watch the Food Channel because I enjoy watching the chefs there put a meal together. Wouldn’t it make a fun reality show to see people compete with making meals? Okay, maybe only I’d find that fun. lol

  4. Hi Jaci. I’m currently reading The Treasure by Iris Johansen. I loved Running Wild and have just pulled off my TBR Riding Temptation to read next. (My wish list TBB includes your Demon series… so many books so little time.)

Some of my favorite authors are suspense authors. My favorite romance authors? Shelley Bradley/Shayla Black, Sylvia Day/SJ Day (and I’m sure Livia Dare as well, when I get her ARC that I just won off the Jo Leigh ebay auction) and of course JR Ward.

I’m really digging Shayla’s Doomsday Brethren. I’ve read the first two books, they’re fabulous. Adrian Phoenix has a great new UF series that seems to be up and coming. The first book A Rush of Wings blew my socks off. I can’t wait until the release of the second one next month!

Thanks, Greta, for the great interview!

  5. Hey Jaci and Greta! Good interview!
Jaci, two questions, what did you do before you began writing and what made you take the leap into writing? On that note, I guess I have a third question, when you first started writing did you just quit everything (working) to persue it?

  6. Jaci – I enjoyed your interview and after learning about Mitch, I will definitely have to read Unraveled! And, thanks to Greta for turning me on to my newest and now favorite hobby! I must admit that although I have always been an avid reader, I did not know about electronic books and many of the options that are available through the Internet. Thanks to Jaci and Greta!

  7. Hi Jaci and Greta!!

I just finished Zack….Armed and Dangerous by Cheyenne McCray!

I have so many auto buy authors and authors that I would highly recommend! Of course all the Writeminded Authors are auto buy for me…….love all of you! I also love and auto buy Sarah McCarty, Beth Williamson and Lora Leigh!! Actually this list can be pretty long…..forgot to mention Shannon McKenna:)

  8. Kristin – Before I was a writer I was an executive in healthcare management. Basically the corporate world. Lots of budgets and personnel and sales. When I divorced and remarried and moved from California to Oklahoma, my husband and I were talking one night and I told him I used to write. He’s the one who encouraged me to start again, so I did. I was working part time then, so I had time to write whereas before with career and raising children writing wasn’t high on my priority list. After I sold my first book, then several others, writing became a full time job for me. It’s been a dream fulfilled for me and I know I’m very lucky.

  9. You are very blessed to be doing what you love. It is funny how parts of your story mirror my own. I am an executive assistant in the development field (I work for the CFO so I also deal with budgets and his personnel and stuff) and like you, I used to love to write and had a short story published locally about 10 years ago but with work and kids it has taken a backseat. I am OK with it because of wonderful authors like you who write such fantastic stories for me to enjoy while I am unable to pursue it any further right now. Thank you so much for sharing your talent and your story!

  10. Great interview, Greta (and Jaci)

I think it’s wonderful that you (Jaci) get to do a “job” that you love…and that you’re so good at!

  11. I am in the midst of reading Anne Bishop’s Black Jewels trilogy. So dark and distrubing, but I am hooked!!

    ((MITCH)) 😀

  12. Hey Jaci and Greta,

I just finished NJ Walter’s, Christina’s Tapestry, the first book in her Tapestry Series.

Since finding writeminded, I’d definetly have to have all of the authors there on the list of my favorites as well as Nora Roberts, Jennifer Crusie, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Christine Feehan, NJ Walters and so many more.

My latest find that I would reccomend to anyone who likes Larissa’s demons is an author that is publishing her own work right now. Her name is Jennifer Turner and her first book is Eternal Seduction. I won this book and couldn’t get to the computer fast enough to find out about the next ones. Warning: Her heroine is not average by any means. She has some major issues for such an important character. There is nothing to fear however, she needed her issues to draw the interest of the hero.

  13. Fantastic interview! I can see Jaci playing the part of Lily!

  14. Hi, Jaci and Greta
Thanks for the great interview. I’m reading Lara Adrain books, in prep for the new one. Have a Happy Holidays.

  15. Great interview!!
I am currently reading Here Kitty Kitty by Shelly Laurenston.
I am thrilled to hear that you are doing a book with Lora Leigh. She’s one of my favorites too and together ya’ll should be awesome!!

  16. Hi Jaci, really enjoyed reading Unwrapped and can’t wait to read more about Mitch.

Currently reading JD Robb’s, Salvation in Death, with Living With The Dead by Kelley Armstrong next up on the list.

Both these author’s are on my auto-buy list, along with Lora Leigh, Joey Hill, Sarah McCarty, Cameron Dane (a new author that I fell in love with), and Keri Arthur, to name just a few.

  17. Great interview! As for what I’m reading, it’s a mix of things. I just finished Digital Fortress by Dan Brown and absolutely loved it. It really satisfied my nerdy love for all things cryptology. As for romance, though, I’m getting ready to finish Patrice Michelle’s Scion series, which is fantastic.

  18. Hey Jaci! Great interview. I’m really looking forward to reading Unraveled, after finishing Unwrapped!

Hope you and yours have a Merry Christmas!

  19. Woops, hit submit by mistake. I just finished the third book in MJD Fred the Mermaid series! Her books are always soooo funny.

I just started Michele Bardsley’s newest Wait Till Your Vampire Gets Home!

On audio, I’m listening to Marjorie M Liu’s book that was part of the Crimson City series.

Your latest demon book is next on my list…I’ve been waiting patiently to read it, so I decided for my early Christmas present to myself I’m moving it to the front of my TBR list!!!!

  20. Great interview Jaci and Greta.

Jaci, I of course love your books.

I am not currently reading anything but I do have several books picked up to start when I get a moment of non-holiday time! Including Holiday Seduction. I also have Maya’s book that I just won! Plus I grabbed Larissa Ione’s Pleasure Unbound from a friends shelf. Those are the three off the top of my head that are next on my list.

  21. Great interview, Greta. Jaci’s awesome. I just finished Unwrapped, my first Jaci novel, and I can’t wait until Unraveled. Thanks for a chance to win it!

  22. Y’all are doing a great job listing what you’re reading or your favorite books. Makes my tbr pile bigger though. 😉

  23. I love these interviews, Greta! Jaci–I loved hearing more about your books. I think Surviving Demon Island would make a fabulous movie. 🙂

  24. Jaci, do you watch Reality Binge? It’s so hilarious.

Have you seen the show Solitary? Oh my goodness, I felt so sorry for those people. What torture!

    Deidre

  25. I haven’t seen either of those shows Deidre. What channel are they on?

  26. Sounds like an interesting book and great interview. I haven’t read the comments, I’ll have to read them later. I’m too tired right now.

    hugs,
    WendyK

  27. *waves* Hi Jaci and Greta! LOVED the interview!

I am a big fan of Jaci’s book and can’t wait to read this one!

  28. Oh, and Jaci, do you get the Fox Reality Channel? It’s like crack for fans of reality shows…very addicting.

  29. Great interview! Unraveled sounds great!
